Chris,
I found an AME that gave me an appt for this friday.
I also got another approval through Wells Fargo. They asked me for a co-signer and came back with a lower fixed rate than SM. 4.95%! My credit score is 795 and my co-signers is 800+. So, I applied again through SM, this time with a co-signer, to see if I can get lower than 4.95… waiting.
I don’t like Wells Fargo. I had an account with them a long time ago and have since forgotten why I closed it but I do remember telling myself I would rather not deal with them. But 4.95% compared to what SM was offering me on $80,000 is enough moola for me to let by gones be by gones.
I’ll keep you updated.
Jeremy
Smart choice! Before all this when loan rates were slightly higher WF offered me like 6 percent and SM was like 13! Best believe I took WF to save money
Jeremy,
That us great news about the medical and the loan approval. Thanks for the update, keep them coming.
Chris
All signed up and using a vacation week from work to push through the Instrument Knowledge Test studying. The only website I could find for Sheppard Air looks un-secure. I finished all the King knowedge stuff but only got a 72% on my first practice test. There are some issues Im having usually around some areas of math and charts that Im a bit confused on. Im sure further study will change that.
Start date is July 13th although Im thinking of pushing that back 2 weeks so I can make sure to give my employer enough time for my departure and collect some reimbursements that they owe me. Also have some car issues that need ironing out and a home project that will need a bit of attention end of July, but Im sure “life” wont relent once I start training so I may just push through as best as possible.
Im scared and excited. All the knowledge one needs to possess to aviate, navigate and communicate is daunting and I found myself burnt out a bit earlier this week. Oo also have some Embry Riddle coursework that is piling up. Research Paper about De_Regulation among some other smaller writings. I think I’ll press into that later today and hopefully more ATP PP review videos.
Thanks for reading this little status update,
Jerm
Jeremy,
While you’re right that life will won’t relent, you really should have as clear a plate as possible. You’re about to get busier than you expect.
Adam
Jeremy,
Are you planning on attending ATP and Embry Riddle at the same time?
Chris
Adam,
So you would suggest me postponing 2 weeks?
As it stands now, I’m still struggling to regain the PPL knowledge. I just failed my first practice exam. I scored a 66.7%. Yikes. Im pretty sure its the math. Im having trouble setting the equations up properly.
Jeremy
Jeremy,
The course is designed for the writtens to be taken while one is a student. While we recommend getting the writtens done early, it is certainly not a requirements and I would not postpone a start date because of it.
Chris
Chris,
No way. I have barely been able to keep pace working and tending to one class at ERAU (2 this past semester), a semester. This last class is Aviation Legislation and Im done with it June 21. There’s a giant research paper on de-regulation i have to submit before the end of next week. Im hoping to take a leave until Im working as a CFI then one class at a time again. My 40 year old brain may not be enough to pull this off. But at least this time through the only thing on my plate will be ATP for 6 months. If I can get through that, I think I can make it. My family seems to believe in me so that is encouraging.

Jeremy,
Entirely up to you. As Chris said completing the writtens early isn’t required. I was more referring to the other things going on in your life (car issues, home projects, etc).
Adam
All,
Just a quick update.
I took a leave from ERAU. I have straight A’s so far! Everybody kept telling me the Bachelors’ was easier than the AA since the classes you’re taking are ones you care about. :).
Still planning to start July 13th. I put my 2 weeks notice into work and am continuing to study for the Instrument written. Im done with the King Instrument materials and now going back to review PP material. Also working through some of the ATP modules. Pretty neat stuff!
I did hit a somewhat expected hiccup though. My 1st class medical has flagged the FAA to ask more about my criminal history so I have to submit to them some paperwork and a written statement. Has definitely put a damper on my morale, but just got to “keep on keepin’ on” as Joe Dirt says ;). Hopefully the FAA will deem me as worthy of holding it and I can continue training. But if not, hopefully I find out sooner or rather than later so I can adjust my future goals.
Jeremy
Jeremy,
I do not think we have discussed any criminal history as it pertains to you on this forum. Keep in mind that even though you might get a FAA medical issued, you still could have issues with being hired by an airline, especially if your crimes make you inadmissible to Canada. I would recommend that you contact the recruiting departments of a few regional airlines and discuss your background with them.
Chris
Copy. Thanks Chris.
I have contacted Piedmont concerning my background and they did not respond. I’ll try Skywest and a few others. Probably best to just ask during one of the forums that ATP sets up on Elevate. Im sure one will align with my schedule soon enough.
I have my BFR scheduled for Monday and I feel good about it. I was slightly concerned because the feel of my landings wasn’t quite coming back until today. I landed a few times pretty softly and it felt really encouraging. So my instructor let me do some soft fields. I remember those being fun and they still are. I have been working really hard and I really needed to see it pay off as a form of encouragement so I am happy. Going in tomorrow for some ground knowledge. I have learned all of this before and have been reviewing diligently, so it should be fun. Trying to find the weak links in my armor before the BFR. Thanks for all your help guys.
Jeremy,
Without knowing the particulars of your criminal history, it is difficult for us to offer any advice. I would hesitate on committing to a flight training program until I had a clear answer on that issue.
I am glad the flight training is going well. Landings always take some work and are what many people find to be one of the most difficult skills to master.
Thanks for the update.
Chris
I appreciate the warning Chris,
At this point I would at least like to get my instrument and commercial certificate. Even if it means having to start my own little business and move to Alaska I would much rather pursue that than get back into a delivery truck for the rest of my life.
But yes, I will absolutely attempt to get answers concerning my issue from several regionals.
Thank you,
Jeremy
Chris,
I finally received a response form a regional. I do not have any of the disqualifying offenses and both of mine are 15+ years old. Skywest’s cutoff is 10 so I suppose I am good to go. At this point I will continue training and hope to interview with regionals. And if that doesn’t work out, I can always tow banners, spray fields or move to Alaska and fly hunters in and out of hunting territory. As long as I’m in the sky for that is where I am happiest.
Thanks for your help kind sir,
Jeremy
Jeremy,
Anytime. I am glad you got good news.
