I am wondering, upon completion of the program and becoming a CFI, if you are able to choose where you instruct, make a preference, or ATP will assign a location for you to instruct at? I currently live about 30 minutes from both Minneapolis-St. Paul ATP locations, and own a house which would make it extremely difficult to have to leave to instruct for 18-24 months.
Upon successful completion of your training ATP will give you a list of available intructor openings. Hopefully one will work for you but there are no guarantees.
Completing ATP’s program in good standing and recommendations from instructors (lead and TSS) will result in a job offer. We like to say Day 1 of program is the start of your job interview, perform well in the classroom and airplane and you will have no trouble. Be a leader in and out of the airplane and you can go further. You will get three options to choose from when selecting a location, you have 1st pick, 2nd pick, and 3rd: along with the ability to select “first available” if you are willing to move anywhere. Some locations may have waitlists which can take weeks or months to get a call for position, so it comes down to what you are able to do.
