Frontier and Spirit Merging

Small wrench in Frontier’s plans, huh?

Ben

Yep. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Update: Spirit Airlines rejects JetBlue offer, clears way for Frontier merger

Ben

I’m not surprised. Seems like the Spirit and Frontier business models are the most compatible. I guess we’ll continue to see how this plays out.

JetBlue still seems adamant, has lowered their offer from $33/share to $30/share though.

The story just keeps getting juicier… can’t wait to see what happens next. :scream:

We need some jeopardy music around these parts.

Ben

This was my guess of how this would turn out. Will be interesting to see if it all gets approved.

As far as what Spirit Pilots want, it’s been 50/50 from what I’ve heard talking to people. Seems trending toward favoring Frontier.

My issue mainly is JBs balance sheet. They want to purchase Spirit, with debt. Then retrofit our entire fleet to their model, with debt. All at the beginning of a recession according to most people.

My other issue is Frontier expands our presence in the West where to me JB doesn’t do much to expand our current presence.

I see some issues with Frontier too, but from a stability standpoint, a merger with them seems like a lot less risk.

I also think Spirit has to get a new contract in the next 6-9 months to stop hemorrhaging pilots. Between pay, reserve rules, and a “shift towards locals” that adds commute time & costs to pilots… they are not doing a great job at persuading people to stay.

It seems it will be a straight shot for jetBlue barring DOJ intervention.

Ben

B6 blowing up the Frontier deal does not mean B6 will takeover Spirit.
B6 may not even want Spirit, but rather didn’t want such a big competitor with that merger.
B6 would still need an agreement and shareholder vote; or a takeover where shareholders give B6 proxy power over their shares and acquire Spirit that way.

Only time will tell.

I still bet there will be significant DOJ challenges.

Ben

And the saga continues…

Hannah

Well, The best part of this merger is it should get rid of that B6 blue uniform due to supply issues lol
