If one were a captain on, say B737, but was able to bid onto another airframe, say B777, would he or she be bidding into a FO seat with the likely accompanying pay decrease?
Alan,
EVERYTHING at the airlines is based on seniority. Doesn’t matter if you were or are a Capt. What matters is your seniority. In your example you’re 737 Capt and you wish to fly the 777 you would not only bid for the airframe but the seat (Capt or FO). If you bid 777 Capt and 777FO and can hold 777 Capt you’ll get it. If you can’t you’d get 777FO and yes that might mean a pay cut. If you were only interested in being a 777 Capt and have no desire to be a 777FO you wouldn’t bid it. You’d bid 777CA and 737CA. Make sense?

Makes sense. Thanks!
