Plug type for headset

I’m looking at getting the Bose A20 headset but they have like six options for plug type. Is straight cord, battery powered, twin plugs the correct one? Not 6-pin or airbus 5-pin, right?

Cody,

You are correct. Unless of course I missed a memo that ATP is getting some A3 somethings for training?

Adam

Do they have adapters as well? Like for instance if I fly an airbus later in my career, I won’t have to buy a whole new headset would I?

Cody,

Yes they have adapters, but FYI, if you show up in my A330 and bust out the Bose I will take your picture and publicly ridicule you

Adam

Lol why is that?

Cody,

Airbus’ (and most commercial aircraft larger than an RJ) have very quiet cockpits. Most of the planes are equipped with single ear very light Telex or similar headsets and most pilots remove them at cruise. The Bose (or any other large headset that is designed to aid in noise cancellation, passive or active) are overkill. That goes for wearing kneeboards as well.

Adam

What about those new headsets that bose unveiled? https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/headphones/aviation_headsets/proflight-aviation-headset.html
I think they would be better for big jets, but would like your opinion as well, Mentors.

That makes a lot of sense. So these bose will be great in these loud prop planes. Then once I get onto the bigger better planes I can just use the headsets provided.

So most people abandon their A20’s once they make it to the regionals? How sad. I guess I only have about 2 years of flying with this headset.

Man, I still think it would be worth it especially in training to be able to hear your instructor crystal clear over all that prop noise.

Plus I feel you ever rent a small plane to take a little trip to the Bahamas or something you can bust out your a20 again.

I agree. Even if it’s just for 2 years, we’ll be spending a lot of time in that very loud cockpit. I wouldn’t want something avoidable like the noise level to add to my exhaustion. (Also I think Bose has a deal right now where if you buy the A20, you get a free bluetooth speaker with it!)

It does make me sad to leave my headsets behind when I move on from GA flying. But well, I don’t really want to be the odd one out with my giant ANR headset when everybody else is using telex headsets though lol

I saw that deal man! I’m bummed I can’t do it though. Gotta wait until my date is a little closer so I can get the reimbursement before I have to pay interest on the credit charge. Hopefully they have another promotion.

Did you start yet? Where you gonna be?

Efe,

You can use your Bose at the regionals. It is at the majors that most people stop using full headsets like those. I have had a few FOs want to wear their’s and ask me to use the intercom feature, I refuse to as there is no reason to do that in a large jet.

Chris

Efe,

If you read my response, I CLEARLY say airplanes LARGER than the RJs. I used my Bose at Xjt for 9yrs. As Chris said, the Bose do too good a job in the larger aircraft forcing you to use the intercom feature which again is not necessary.

Adam

Really?

Adam

Adam,

Yep. It seems to be a new thing here, especially on the 737 fleet. It is absolutely pointless on the A320 as the cockpit is so quiet. Even the 737 is not really that loud.

Chris

for headset

Really?
