I currently have a first class medical, that I received before getting out of the military. I am receiving disability for migraines and tinnitus which I had in the military. But I have not had a migraine in years. Will this be a problem for my airline career? I thought about calling the va and telling them I no longer suffer from migraines. Do y’all have any advice of experience with something like this.
Austin,
I’m no expert but I’m thinking if you’re currently receiving disability for a condition that could impact your flying career yes you could have an issue. I know two pilots who lost their medicals due to severe migraines so yes this would be a concern for any prospective airline.
I have to ask did you report the condition to your AME when you obtained your First Class medical?
Adam
I did not suffer from migraines when I got my first class medical. Do you have any advice of what I could do to. Like I said I do not currently suffer from migraines.
Maybe I don’t understand how the VA works, but if you do not suffer from migraines, how do you still receive disability for such?
When I filed for disability I was suffering from migraines then after they approve your disability they do check ups every 5 years.
Austin,
The question on the FAA form is:
HAVE YOU EVER IN YOUR LIFE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH, HAD, OR DO YOU PRESENTLY HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING?
They also ask if you were medically discharged from the military.
My advice is you be honest with the FAA and the VA.
Adam
Austin,
Don’t withhold any information on your medical application. If the FAA requires additional testing and/or information, they will mail you instructions.
