Starting the Journey-Where to begin

A little background,

I am 23 years old and currently work in the marketing field for a great company. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, and I’ve been out working for two years! However, I already can see that I don’t want to be stuck in a cubicle my entire life. It has already begun to seem monotonous. I have no flight experience, but have done sit ins with my neighbor (a pilot), and have had extensive conversations with others about the possibility of becoming a pilot myself. Other than the job security, relatively flexible schedule, and competitive pay, I could simply see myself as being happy in the field and having a fulfilling career that I would be proud to hang my hat on.

I know the path isn’t easy, and it seems like there are a variety of ways to get started. I’m guessing since this is sponsored by ATP, that is the suggested route, but are there other ways to get started that I should be considering? Is there something I can do now to start getting ready? I’m in no hurry currently (Trying to save some money), so I guess I’m really just wondering where my next steps should be if I do decide this is what I want to do!

Hey Jason,
I worked my tail off for a masters degree and worked a desk job in aviation for years only to realize I belong in the sky. Currently doing private training at my home airport.
If you have the money to start private training and work your current job then do that. Saves a good bit of cash for training and several months of living expenses. Plus, it leaves yourself some padding in case you suddenly realize flying isn’t for you. Going to be hard leaving my career until I can pass my private checkride. Then I know I’ll be ready and capable and I can trade the corner office for the cockpit.
