Hi, I’m currently starting my 12th grade in high school and I am considering ATP flight school after I graduate from college. I’m writing to know if someone can tell me what type of major do airlines prefer. I like business and accounting, but I read that engineering is the most preferred by major airlines. If you can give me a little help with that, I’ll really appreciate it.
Hello Gustavo and Welcome!
Major airlines want a 4 yr degree, the major really isn’t a consideration. If you like business and accounting I suggest that’s what you pursue. First off as I said the Majors simply care about the degree not the area of study (I know pilots with the degrees in virtually everything you can imagine from music to Asian studies). Second it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B, just in case things don’t work out, you change your mind, you want a second career on the side…

Gustavo,
I agree with Adam on this. From what I have seen flying with various pilots for the last twelve years it really doesn’t matter what your degree is in. The majors just want to see that you can be committed to something for four years. Pick something that you are interested in and go for it.
Chris
Thanks, appreciated.
Any time. Feel free to ask any other questions as you think of them.
