Hello,
I’m aspiring to be a commercial airline pilot, and I’ve heard rumors that pre-calculus, and calculus is used when training to be a pilot. Although I am extremely skeptical of these rumors, I would just like an answer from a pilot.
Thank You
Marcos,
As a Capt for a Major airline I can confirm the rumors you’ve heard are false. I’ve been doing this a while and have never been required to do anything beyond the mathematical basics. If you can add, subtract, multiply and divide you’ll be fine.

Marcus,
Only basic algebra is used on the job. Don’t quote me on this, but I think Aviation Degrees include Calculus and Physics in the curriculum, but again, only algebra (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) is used day-to-day.

Thank you for your question.

Marcos,
Fortunately being a pilot really only requires arithmetic skills. If calculus was required half of us, including myself, would never make it.
