Hi, I’m a 17-year-old junior in high school currently moving on to my senior year and I’m fairly set on becoming an airline pilot. My plan is to go to a 4-year college and obtain a degree in Aerospace Engineering then undergo the ATP program afterward. My question is if there’s anything that I need/should do now in high school in order to fulfill that goal (ie. any certificates I should obtain, programs that I should undergo)?
Lanc,
It sounds like you have a solid plan. The best thing you can do is work hard and get good grades to give yourself a solid educational background. The aviation stuff can come later.

Lanc,
Stick with the plan you have. When you are 3-6 months from enrollment, take as many of the written tests as you can.

Hello Lanc!
I had to visit the topic because I wanted to let you know your not alone. Literally I am 17 as well, starting to pursue my Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering after my reserve training this summer. After getting my degree I will join ATP as well. Would be cool to come across you one day my brotha!
Haha that’s really cool! I hope we can both make it big in the industry one day and I wish you the best the best, cheers!
Thank you for the response! Do you mean enrollment before college or ATP?
Thank you for the advice! I guess I’m just so eager to get up in the air haha.
Before ATP. The written test results are valid for 24 calendar months. Just giving you a ballpark number of when to get started on them. Make adjustments based on your own study habits.
