Airline requirements

In reality, does heigh matter to become a commercial pilot?

For example, can a 4 feet 10 inches woman is accepted to be a pilot of any commercial flight?

Vu,

The airlines have no formal height restrictions, you simply need to be able to reach the controls. Really depends on torso vs limb length.

Reasonably sure I’ve flown with at least one pilot who was 4’11"? They needed cushions but they were fine.

Hi Adam,

Thank you so much for getting back to me.
It’s a wonderful news! :star_struck:

All the best,

Linh.

Linh,

Don’t thank me yet, as I said can depend. I also know a pilot who wanted to fly for the Air Force. He met their overall height requirement but because he had long legs and a short torso, didn’t meet their sitting height requirement.

Again it’s a matter of whether or not you can reach the controls.

Adam

Hi Adam,

Do you know how can we find out the way to measure the control height to see if I can reach it?

Thank you,

Linh

Linh,

Id schedule an intro flight or lesson with ATP is there’s one close by or at your local flight school. If you can operate the controls in a small GA trainer you should be fine.

Further it’s a really good idea to see if this is really something you want to pursue vs something you THINK you want to.

Adam

Adam,

Thank you very much for your advice
I really appreciate the information and encouragement.

I hope you enjoy the journey!

Best regards,

Linh.
