Female hairstyle allowed

Hello,

I was curious as to whether a hime-cut hairstyle would be allowed for uniforms? Essentially face-framing pieces of hair that don’t necessarily cover the ears from a side view, but cover from the front. (Back hair would be tied up) Example attached.

The ATP uniform policy just states no hair covering the ears, and is not specific enough to answer my question.

Thank you!

Lily,

This is a question for admin, but the idea is to a) present a professional appearance and more important b) not have any issues with headsets (w/mics), sunglasses, Instrument training hoods or voggles, or anything sense that could get in the way.

Lily,

Great question and thanks for the example, I’m assuming the bangs and temples wouldn’t be a problem, but ATP and Admissions has the final say.

I highly doubt training centers will regulate you if you look groomed and are wearing proper uniform. But in more practical terms, as a girl with bangs, if you live anywhere hot, I’d advise you to maybe put it back? The way the style is, the bangs would not be held back by your headset, so it’ll just be flapping around with the air vents blasting and will definitely be annoying. There’s also a lot of head turning and looking down and up during flying and I do feel like the bangs could be a bit distracting, especially when one hand is glued to the yoke and the other to the throttle. However, that decision/discovery would be up to you!

Lily,

As for flight training, you’ll probably need to figure out how to pull it back out of your face to reduce distractions in the cockpit. Uniform standards can and do change often at various airlines. I’d take some time to think about what’s more important to you, your hair style or your career?
