The time has come for my United Aviate interview on Tuesday. Flying to DEN on Monday. I guess you could say I’m pretty nervous, although I’ve been to many interviews this will be the biggest one I’d say so far in my life. Do any of you have any tips to calm my nerves/stuff to avoid doing during the interview. Thanks in advanced.
There’s no need to be nervous. The best advice I can give you is to remember that. While you obviously want to get accepted, you absolutely positively don’t NEED to be. This is a new program and by all indications it’s a good one but pilots have been getting hired for decades without it and will continue to do so. This isn’t the be all and end all of your career. If you truly believe that fact you’ll be excited but not desperate. Desperate never goes well.
Best part of everything I’ve said is true. Be positive and excited and let that shine through but again this not a requirement to fulfill your goals. If you get it great but if you don’t you’ll still be fine.
Derek,
Congrats! It’s an accomplishment to get that far. Being nervous is completely normal. Keep in mind that the people you are interviewing with are just people too, fellow pilots and you’re simply having a conversation. Take the time to prepare the best you can ahead of time and then once you get there just put your best foot forward. At that point you’re just showing them who you are, how you think, etc.
Had my Aviate interview in March. The Aviate team does a great job in making it a relaxed environment. You will undoubtedly have fun and learn how the Airline interview process works. The HR portion just be sure to think about your answer before you dive into one. Have some stories to tell. Make sure to stick with the STAR format and it’s okay to have negative experiences as long as you show you learned from them. It was about 7 tell me about a time questions. The technical portion was cake. Best of luck!
The technical portion is more of a conversation, you’ll be asked questions based on your airmen knowledge/experience. For example, I got asked a question like “if flying and you needed fuel, by looking at the sectional, how can I determine an airport provides fuel services.” Be familiar with your flight plan and weather for that flight, expect to answer some questions regarding ADM/SOPs/etc.
