I finally took the PAR exam and was able to score a 95% after a couple of weeks of King’s School and the Sporty’s Study Buddy app. I am eager to continue taking the written exams and have a quick question about what I should do next. From what I’ve read on this forum, the recommended next tests to take are the IRA, as well as the FII since they share a similar question bank. I am going to follow everyone’s advice and use Sheppard Air, but was wondering if only the IRA test prep is sufficient enough to cover both the IRA and FII? Or should I get both of Sheppard’s IRA and FII test prep? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you all!!
And if anyone can quickly let me know the remaining written tests that are recommended to complete before starting training and the correct order. Thanks!!!
Nik,
Sheppard will tell you that if you don’t buy their FII training course, you will see questions that you haven’t seen before. I did not pay for the FII study course and only used the IRA study course. I took the IRA and FII and I actually did better on the FII than the IRA - you may see some questions you haven’t seen before but overall, you’ll be fine. I also took the IGI exam the next day, something that will come into play when I’m instructing and want to get my Gold Seal, and I passed that as well.
I followed this forum post from Brady for all my tests. Preparing for your Airman Knowledge Tests
This is a good one too! FAA Written Exams - Trust the Process
Best of luck!
IRA & FII share a very similar test bank so do those tests on the same day (or soon after). The CAX will be next going back to VFR flying subject matter predominantly. Then you transition to the instructor exams. The FIA is the most similar to the CAX so that’s a good one to do next. the FII is the instructor instrument exam (with similar questions from the IRA) and lastly the FOI is unlike any other test… it’s all about the psychology of learning and instruction. You’ll be missing aviation subject matter after that one!
